The Heart of Speaker Technology
At the heart of the system’s performance is the Linear Moving Force System used in the mid-bass and mid-high speakers. It combines multilayer cone material, microfibre surround, a short wound voice coil and a high accuracy magnetic circuit design to produce precise sound reproduction – aiming to match the audio reproduction to the master recording.
To produce accurate sound, the mid-bass and mid-high speakers use a short wound, large diameter voice coil, combined with a specially-designed magnetic circuit, using an overhung thick plate. This profile ensures a symmetrical distribution of the magnetic flux and allows an accurate excursion of the cone.
The microfibre surround is made in lightweight artificial suede which offers low mechanical resistance and smooth excursion, without making any unnecessary sound. This of course optimises the technical value of the short voice coil and new magnetic circuit design.
The multilayered cone, as used on the 13cm and 17cm speakers, consists of a glass fibre base on which is moulded composite fibre IMPP with interlaced amamid fibres that are also used on the woven carbon blended skin. It’s a structure that makes the cone very rigid, but at the same time lightweight, and is ideal for high-quality sound reproduction in the low and mid range.
On the 10cm speaker, in order to ensure good mid-mid/high response, a dual layer composite cone, with arimid fibre and pulp is used. This structure offers optimum rigidity and weight for the smaller sized cone.
The tweeter is constructed using a high-powered magnetic circuit, a back chamber and an ultra lightweight soft domed diaphragm to produce low distortion and generate extra-wide directivity.
The design of a larger than normal back chamber is achieved by integrating the tweeter and bracket into one piece: a feature that reduces distortion and expands the low frequency range. For a tweeter, sound reproduction over 5 kHz is especially important and the large back chamber also ensures that distortion in this range is dramatically lower than other speakers in this class. Thanks to the dome design, directivity is also very good, particularly so with frequencies over 10 kHz.
The passive network included in the packages systems is made using high quality components and offers a simple 12dB/oct cut-off, to minimise loss. Air-core coils and a high grade film capacitor are used to ensure sound quality, while gold plated brass terminals and iron free circuits are used to further minimise loss.
InstallationDespite the large magnetic circuit used in the woofers, installation depth and diameter are the same as conventional speakers, while the tweeters come with a choice of fitting options, including flush mount, surface mount or invisible mount – a selection of spacers is included for this purpose.
