G9 KURO - Digital Broadcast Specification Details

The compatibility of the Pioneer KURO Flat Screen TVs with digital terrestrial or satellite TV broadcast services has been fixed at the time of their introduction.

You can find these compatibility details by clicking on the relevant model number below.

PDP-LX5090, PDP-LX6090 – featuring digital terrestrial TV reception

The digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception capabilities of these models are linked to DVB-T compliant MPEG-2 based standard definition broadcasts.

These models have been confirmed to be supporting digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception in the countries marked with “OK” below:

PDP-LX5090 / PDP-LX6090 – DVB-T support:

OK? Country As of
OK Austria initial release
OK Belgium initial release
OK Czech Republic initial release
OK Denmark initial release
OK Finland initial release
OK France initial release
OK Germany initial release
OK Italy initial release
OK The Netherlands initial release
OK Spain initial release
OK Sweden initial release
OK Switzerland initial release
OK United Kingdom initial release

This table is indicating support for DVB-T non-scrambled digital terrestrial EN-62216-1 ("E Book") compliant transmissions. Reception of scrambled services is depending on the related specifications and the official availability and support for Conditional Access modules.

PDP-LX5090H, PDP-LX6090H, KRP-600A, KRP-500A, KRP-500AW, KRP-500ABG – featuring both digital terrestrial & digital satellite TV reception

The digital terrestrial and digital satellite TV broadcast reception capabilities of these models are linked to DVB-T / DVB-S / DVB-S2 compliant MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 based standard definition or high-definition broadcasts.

The Pioneer KURO Flat Screen TVs featuring both digital terrestrial and digital satellite TV broadcast reception are compliant with the EICTA “HD TV 1080p” Minimum Requirements and support MPEG-4 high definition decoding.

Actual coverage of “high definition” digital TV broadcast services is however typically depending on additional local / service linked parameters, which are in many areas still not finalised. Because of this Pioneer only links the “high definition” digital TV capability to the areas / services explicitly listed below.

Information specific for Digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception

Digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception

Pioneer is implementing a single common platform for digital broadcast reception in all its KURO Flat Screen TVs featuring both digital terrestrial and digital satellite TV broadcast reception.

Pioneer has decided to advance the active marketing and commercialisation of some of its KURO Flat Screen TV models featuring both digital terrestrial and digital satellite TV broadcast reception in certain of the officially targeted areas, implying that the digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception functionality is only effectively activated for these selected areas at the time of bringing these products to the market (note: this restriction does not apply to digital satellite reception).

Standard Definition

These models have been confirmed to be supporting digital terrestrial TV standard definition broadcast reception in the countries marked with “OK” below:

PDP-LX5090H / PDP-LX6090H – Standard Definition DVB-T support

KURO Flat Screen TV models with an advanced release in selected areas are fully functional for all digital terrestrial and digital satellite TV broadcast reception in their respective area only. Please note that digital satellite reception is not subject to this fit-for-a-specific-area-only restriction (although also here actual restrictions – typically service related – may apply).

Updates will be made available to extend the digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception support on the products that were part of an advanced release programme to the same level as the final specification target (all countries / regions in the tables above).

This table is indicating support for DVB-T non-scrambled transmissions. Reception of scrambled services is depending on the related specifications and the official availability and support for Conditional Access modules.

Checking and Updating Your G9 KURO

Customers intending to use this model for digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception in one of the areas that is preceded an “OK”-mark and where “Initial release and/or update” is indicated may have to:

  • Check below (How to verify which DVB-T regions are activated on your TV) for information on how to verify which DVB-T regions are activated on their KURO TV
  • Visit the firmware download page when required.

High Definition

Digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception of high definition transmissions supported by these models will be listed here, including an indication of the date and place when the support was verified and confirmed (assuming – where applicable – availability of a suitable Condition Access Module and a valid smartcard for scrambled services):

  • (service) – (optional additional notes) – (date) – (country, place)

How to verify which DVB-T regions are activated on your TV

To verify directly on your KURO Flat Screen TV featuring both digital terrestrial and digital satellite TV broadcast reception for which regions digital terrestrial TV broadcast reception has been activated, please do the following:

  • Step 1: make sure that the digital tuner (terrestrial or satellite) is the active selection
While your KURO is on, push one of the number keys on the remote control: in case the channel identification that is briefly shown in the top left corner is starts with the letter "A" (followed by a number), push the "TV/DTV/SAT" key on the remote control once or twice to select the digital terrestrial (identified by "D") or satellite (identified by "S") tuner respectively. Please note that this step is needed to be able to continue with the next step, even if you have not (yet) set-up the digital terrestrial and/or satellite tuner.

  • Step 2: check the DTV set-up
    • Access the “Home Menu”, and select “Setup”
    • On the next menu layer, select "System Setup"
    • On the next menu layer, select "Digital Tuner Setup" (if this is greyed out, please go to step 1 first)
    • On the next menu layer, select "Installation"
    • On the next menu layer, select "Digital Setup"
    • On the next menu layer, select "Country": in case Austria, Finland, France and The Netherlands are already selectable, please do not apply this update to your KURO.

If you can select a specific region (country) in the “country” list, the product can already receive digital terrestrial TV broadcast services for this region.

Information specific for Digital Satellite TV broadcast reception (Standard Definition / High Definition)

Digital Satellite TV Broadcast Reception

The following are the general coverage principles that apply to the KURO Flat Screen TVs featuring digital satellite TV broadcast reception of DVB-S / DVB-S2 services:

  • Free-to-air (FTA) non-scrambled digital satellite TV broadcast transmissions: these are in general and in as far as no service specific requirements are imposed supported
  • Free-to-air (FTA) scrambled digital satellite TV broadcast transmissions: depends on actual broadcast service specification and Conditional Access (CA) system
  • Pay TV (scrambled) digital satellite TV broadcast transmissions: depending on the availability of a certification process for integrated digital TV (iDTV) receivers and a suitable Conditional Access Module (CAM), Pioneer may – at its sole discretion – decide to apply for the relevant certification

It is important to note in addition that the support for digital satellite TV broadcast reception is:

  • In many cases subject to geo-restrictions (e.g. restriction of satellite footprint, country / residence restricted availability of smartcards, etc)
  • In many cases subject to evolutions in terms of the service conditions (e.g. transition from non-scrambled to scrambling, etc)
  • In certain cases subject to additional service specific requirements that may fully or partially prevent support of these services (e.g. requirements with respect to interactivity, EPG services, etc)

Pay TV (scrambled) digital satellite TV broadcast services supported by these models will be listed here, including an indication of the date and place when the support was verified and confirmed (assuming availability of a suitable Condition Access Module and a valid smartcard for scrambled services):

  • (service) – (SD/HD) – (optional additional notes) – (date) – (country, place)

Some of the information available will be updated as Pioneer proceeds with the actual roll-out of the related KURO Flat Screen TV models. Please visit again for the latest updates.

The available services and access conditions may change over time, which may impact the compatibility overviews – which are explicitly linked to the actual introduction time of the products except where otherwise indicated.
