Is a plasma connection to PC through HDMI input possible?
For our older plasma models, it is possible that a picture is displayed, but distortions and wrong positioning of the PC picture can occur, so Pioneer do not support PC signals via HDMI input on these plasmas.
However HDMI from PC is supported on all KURO plasmas (except for PDP-5000EX) - check the attachment for resolutions, audio and sampling frequency requirements.
Note:
- It may take a short while until the image is displayed, depending on the equipment connected.
- When connecting a PC to the HDMI terminal, use the HDMI compliant PC or video card.
- When connecting a PC to the HDMI terminal using a DVI output terminal, the plasma television may not display properly. If that is the case, consult with your PC manufacturer.
- PC picture and/or sound may not be displayed or heard properly depending on the PC used.

How do I remove after image from my plasma?
After image will gradually disappear by itself when watching regular film or TV broadcasts. If you want to speed up this process, perform the following steps:
1) Set the screen on an untuned TV channel, so that snow is on the screen. Set the Contrast on 50, Brightness on +20 and the colors on +20 or you can change the AV mode.
2) Disable power control - no signal off: DISABLE. To prevent the plasma from switching off automatically.
3) Set Picture - AV selection to DYNAMIC.
Leave this image on for several hours (recommended is one night). The amount of time that is needed to remove the after image is depending on the intensity of the after image. It could be gone after one night or itcould take a week.
This phenomenon is present on every plasma, no matter the brand.
In meantime, the after image effect has been tremendously improved and the latest KURO (Flat Screen) TVs are hardly sensitive for it.
Note: there is no special procedure for Kuro plasma's. Just set the contrast, brightness and colour at a low, but acceptable level.

When I try picture in picture on my plasma, I get 'D_ _ _' and no picture on my second screen.
The multi-screen function can only display images from the following combinations of input sources:
- Analogue TV and digital TV
- Analogue TV (or digital TV) and external sources
In case digital stations are not available or not activated, only D--- will be displayed without any image. -

I don't get any sound or image when I use the HDMI input of my plasma.
Depending on your plasma model, it's possible that you need to enable the HDMI input. When you use HDMI input 1 (Kuro models) or HDMI input 3, you need to enable the HDMI input with the following steps:
1) Connect the DVD player to the media receiver by an HDMI cable. Make sure that the media receiver is connected to the screen.
2) Turn on the devices connected via that HDMI input (plasma and DVD player/recorder/...).
3) Use the remote control for the plasma screen to select your HDMI input. This will be shown on the screen.
4) Then use the remote control to enter the HOME MENU.
5) Use the down arrow on the remote control to select the OPTION on screen. Then press enter.
6) The last entry in the 'Option' menu is used to enable and adjust the HDMI connection.
7) Play a DVD disc in the DVD player. You should now get the playback onthe screen.

In order to be able to record from the digital or analogue channels from the onboard tuner of either the plasma screens, it is necessary to connect the recorder to either SCART input 2 or 3. To record what is being displayed on screen you must select the correct input on the recorder (normally L1 or L2) and simply press record. This will record whatever channel is being displayed, but it is not possible at that time to change to another channel as the recording will record this change and carry on recording the new channel. If a timer recording is required and the screen is not needed on (i.e. recording a programme while out or after going to bed) then you need to use the EPG to set a timer for a programme as well as a separate timer on your recorder to come on at the correct time and correct input channel (normally L1 or L2). When the programme starts, the plasma will output to the recorder but will not activate the screen (if it has been switched to standby). The recorder should come on and record whatever the plasma is sending out.

Is my Pioneer plasma screen with HDMI input or component input HD ready?
Since October 2003 (from 4th generation on) all produced plasma models are HD ready.
-
Can I get a longer power cord for my plasma?
Pioneer do not have a longer power cord, but it is possible to buy one of high quality in a local shop.
-
Which PC resolutions are supported by Pioneer home plasmas?
If I put a signal into the PC input of my plasma that has a resolution which is not mentioned in the chart, then there is a pop-up that says 'input signal is not supported'. (If the PC is HDCP ready you can connect it via HDMI.)
Set your PC to another setting. Please check the attached list for possible signals.
Most plasma systems introduced after October 2003 have VGA inputs but please note that the PDP-435FDE , PDP-436SXE , PDP-436RXE , PDP-436FDE ,PDP-506FDE , PDP-4270XD , PDP-4270XA,PDP-42RXE systems DO NOT have a VGA input and DO NOT support any type of PC video signal via the HDMI input either.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)= uncompressed digital audio and video data which are transferred via one cable.
HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) = a digital copy protection system to avoid copying digital data.
If two devices are connected via an HDMI cable and one of the devices is not HDCP compatible then no audio or video may be sent or received. -
What is the ideal distance between me and my plasma?
There are no scientific rules to determine the optimal viewing distance.
It depends from personal preferences, viewing conditions and the quality of the source.
As a practical guideline, we can say that the optimal viewing distance will be between 2 to 5 times the diagonal measurement of the plasma screen. -
What is the noise that I hear on my plasma screen?
Panel buzzing noise or electrical circuit humming which is refferred to as drive sound.
The screen of a plasma television is composed of extremely fine pixels which emit light according to received video signals. As part of the light emitting process of a plasma display, a huge number of pixels discharge. This principle may make you hear buzz sound or electrical circuit humming from the Plasma Television. This does not indicate a product malfunction.
Pioneer has set clear standards for the 'drive sound' of plasma displays. All plasma displays are inspected at the factory during the production process and only units within specification are released to the market.
HOW TO REDUCE DRIVE SOUND
In order to reduce the 'drive sound', go to HOME MENU - POWER CONTROL, then press Energy Save mode 1 or change drive mode from via HOME MENU - OPTION - from 75Hz to 100Hz.
For the KURO plasma's, please proceed as follows. Go to HOME MENU - POWER CONTROL - ENERGY SAVE then press Energy Save mode1 or mode 2.

How to change settings -
Can I replace the media receiver of a plasma by another media receiver (that supports PiP and PaP)?
No, it's not possible to swap media receivers.
-
What are the best settings for my plasma?
It is difficult to recommend one ideal over all picture setting as it depends on local viewing environment, type of programme, video quality and personal preferences.
A number of pre-defined AV selection modes are available to choose from and all Plasma TVs provide various advanced functions for optimizing the picture quality.
Additionally, selected models feature an Optimum AV mode which automatically adjusts various picture parameters (brightness, colour, sharpness etc.) based on picture information and room brightness.
The ISF C3 (or Custom Calibration Configuration) feature allows some plasma panel to be optimized for your viewing environment.
As an optional service, a trained professional can precisely calibrate your plasma panel with customized levels of contrast, tint, colour level and other parameters. -
Can I view MPEG-4 files via the PCMCIA interface of my plasma?
No, this is not possible. Plasmas with a Front PCMCIA interface only support JPEG files.
-
How do I get surround sound via my plasma speakers?
True surround can't be reproduced via the two speakers of the plasma screen.
Nevertheless a three dimensional surround effect can be simulated via the front surround feature.
It is possible to activate this feature via:
For the plasmas produced before 2007: Select HOME MENU/ SOUND/FRONT SURROUND
For the plasmas produced in 2007: HOME MENU/SOUND/SOUNDEFFECTS/SRS -
What is the official lifetime of the Pioneer plasma screen?
The average plasma screen is made to last 60.000 Hours.
-
How do I activate the full screen on my plasma via HDMI?
Make sure DVD recorder is connected using an HDMI cable.
When the HDMI resolution is set to 576i the aspect ratio of the image can be adapted by pushing the dedicated button on your plasma remote control.
In case the HDMI resolution is placed to either 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p, the zoom function of the plasma TV will only work when the 4:3 video output is set to 'full': INITIAL SETUP MENU - HDMI OUTPUT SETTING - 4:3 VIDEO OUTPUT.
When set to 4:3, video will be shown in its original aspect ratio with black bars on each side.

Why is it not recommended to show static images on a plasma for a long time?
Because of the after image effect which is inherent to the plasma technology, this is not recommended.
-
What is the difference between HD Ready and Full HD?
HD ready is a quality label which has been introduced by EICTA (European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology IndustryAssociations) in January 2005 for the differentiation of display equipment, capable of processing and displaying high-definition signals. It is awarded on the basis of minimum functionality requirements that are detailed in the 'EICTA conditions for HD Labelling of Display Devices'.
'Full High Definition' or 'True High Definition' is often used in marketing materials refering to flat screens with physical resolution of 1920 x 1080. There are however no specific requirements linked to these marketing names and each manufacturer can have its own interpretation. -
You can connect it as described below.
Wall --> Ant in DIG --> Ant out DIG --> Ant in Analogue. -
Can I use my plasma remote to control other devices?
Yes, it's possible for certain models. Please check the manual where you can find the configuration codes for controlling other devices.
If a brand isn't mentioned in this list, please try to find a universal remote control unit.
